Hello!

I made a 1 minute video summary of this blog post/newsletter (see below) for all you visual people out there. If you like it, leave me a comment and I’ll do one next time, too!

If you prefer to just read, well then heck yeah, just read on.

It’s Launch Day…

Alien Earth is finally here! It’s the second kids’ book in my Magical Earth series, and it follows Noodle the Zoodle as they travel across the universe to try and save their home planet. It’s a “subtly vegan” kids book that encourages little ones to appreciate and respect the beauty in life all around us.

I wrote this book when I realized that vegan-friendly books weren’t that easy to find…and I wanted to make something fun that I could read to my little guy one day!

Alien Earth features some of my original nature photography, colorful digital art, and a hidden Noodle on each page. I hope you enjoy reading this to the little ones in your life!

Do Vegan Neighborhoods Exist?

Do you feel settled in your community?

Are you friends with your neighbors?

Do you miss the days of riding bikes to your friends’ houses, and hanging around eating snacks out of the pantry while you make prank calls on the landline?

I’ve been thinking a lot about community lately. Since I got off social media in 2021, my world has changed drastically. I don’t have any online friends anymore. And even some of my in-person friendships drifted away without the IG algorithm to remind us of each other’s existence.

Some wonderful new tangible relationships have blossomed. Overall, I love my life off the internet! The only thing that feels missing sometimes…is my vegan community.

I have dreams of living in a vegan neighborhood (email me if you know of any!!). I’m not quite ready for an intentional community situation, but I would love to walk out my front door and be surrounded by others who share my most important values. It’s difficult to go to BBQs and holiday gatherings where dead animals are on display for eating, and not feel anxious. It makes it hard to connect.

So, what about you? If you’re vegan, do you have neighbors who share your values?… I’ll share poll results in my next email!

The Smell of Money

A new documentary is out: The Smell of Money. It was produced and directed by Shawn Bannon, who first put Krimsey’s Cajun Kitchen on the map with his feature video of the restaurant.

He’s produced many incredible works since then, including a short film on the Three Sisters Swamp. I love his work, and I’m sure you will too. If you watch The Smell of Money, please reply to this email and let me know what you thought!

Do Feminists Eat Moms?

Now that I’m a mom myself, I see other moms in a brand new light. And what we do to cow mothers and their babies is nothing short of horrendous.

If you’re a feminist who consumes dairy products…how do you justify separating mother cows from their babies so that you can drink their milk, and then eat their flesh when they’re too old and “spent” to produce more offspring/milk for you?…

The Sexual Politics of Meat just celebrated its 30th anniversary, and is a must-read for feminists looking to broaden their egalitarian impact on the world.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
— Mahatma Gandhi

You can probably find this book at your local library for FREE!

Walden-ish hit #1 New Release in its category (Nature Literary Criticism) last week!!! Thank you so much for all of the love and reviews on this book. It’s because of you that Walden-ish is now showing up in search results!

The paperback will be here soon…just reply to this email with “YAH!” (if you haven’t already) and you’ll be the first to know when it’s available.

bye bye, for now! I only listened to a few podcasts this week, and they were all “meh.” So I have none to recommend at the moment. But how about some Christmas Reggae?
